The eldest of two sons Aragorn was born in 1966 on the small island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. After spending his early years growing up within the powerful natural beauty of the Caribbean, he was given a European education sympathetic to his creative urges, introducing him to many artistic techniques such as pottery, printmaking, design and metal work. He completed his studies with a degree in Art History from the University of East Anglia, UK, specializing in tribal and twentieth century art, architecture and design.
Influences & Beginnings
In his early 20’s, with his trademark sketchbook in hand and his mind stimulated by the power of artistic expression, Aragorn travelled extensively throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Russia, the Balkans, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Southern Africa, Morocco, the Americas and Scandinavia. It was the experiences and friendships made during these travels that have inspired his belief in the magic of art as a unifying human force and has given him a profound fascination in the power of human creativity.
Between journeys Aragorn always returned to his spiritual and natural home on Tortola. It was here that he set up his studio and gallery and started to express his ideas through sculpture. Working primarily in metal for its permanence, brilliance and allure he started to translate the (signature/trademark) bold silhouette images of his drawing style into cut, beaten and patinated works of art. Experimentation with polished or patina metals, cut out silhouetted shapes and the use of light, fire and most recently water have all combined to form Aragorn’s distinctive artistic style. His busy life is blessed by the company of Federica, his wonderful Italian wife and mother of their two boys Ceiba and Zanti.
